Melanin is a cultural and storytelling site that celebrates the lives, strength, and achievements of Black women. The homepage opens with a strong declaration “Celebrating the Beauty & Strength of Black Women” supported by an introductory message framing the site as a curated space for identity, power, and authenticity. I built this in honour of and love for my mother, whose story is cited first in the Spotlights section.

The site’s storytelling continues with a dedicated timeline under “Remarkable Events in Black Women’s History,” highlighting milestones such as Rosa Parks’ bus boycott (1955), Dorothy Counts integrating an all-white school (1962), and Mae Jemison becoming the first Black woman in space (1992). This section uses a scrollable format to immerse visitors in historic moments that define resilience and progress.

Beyond history, the site encourages participation. A “Tell Your Story” section invites women to share personal narratives of breaking barriers, inspiring change, and celebrating their journeys. This positions Melanin not just as a static archive but as a living, collaborative platform where individual voices can be heard and preserved.

The design maintains a minimalist, editorial aesthetic with bold typography and clean layouts, allowing the cultural message to lead. Fully built in Framer, the site balances clarity, emotional storytelling, and smooth responsive design. The footer provides credits, a designer attribution, and a rallying call for like minded persons.
